Brush Care 101: How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes
Cleaning your makeup brushes is a rather simple task and hopefully these few tips can help you do the job like a professional. There are lots of ways you can clean your makeup brushes. For most makeup artists, the easiest way is to take some baby shampoo and gently clean them in a bowl until all the dirt and makeup is removed. This also applies to beauty sponges. Once your brushes are clean you need to rinse them thoroughly with warm water. Be sure to gently re-shape them if they have become distorted or too bushy for your liking. Then just simply place them on the edge of the sink or on a lint free cloth until they’re dry.
If the handles of your brushes have a standard ferrule, try to avoid getting that part wet because it will eventually rust (Fact: Many Beau Gâchis makeup brushes are made of copper ferrules which are dipped in nickel therefore they will not rust).
Additionally, you’ll need to be careful if your brushes have bamboo handles because water will eventually damage the bamboo. Again, when you wash your brushes, the water must be warm not hot. If your brushes become stiff after you’ve washed them, gently apply a small amount of hair conditioning to soften them. Finally, apply a small amount of medicinal alcohol to your brush handles in order to remove any bacteria that may remain.
Here at Beau Gâchis, we want you to enjoy the art of makeup because we know the most important aspect of makeup application is our brushes and you.
